Yay! It is the holiday season, and I love it. It is less than a month to Christmas, and I see 2018! It is standing at the corner. I am so ready for it. The holiday season is my time to get some sleep, and that was the bulk of my Thanksgiving. I stayed at home, sat in bed and did a whole lot of nothing.
It was magical.
And here is how I’m currently living…
My faith is taking increasingly deeper roots in my life. I am a Christian, and I believe in the Bible and in Jesus Christ. It is something I don’t shy away from talking about, but it is something I shy away from talking about. Lately, I’m putting it on the table a lot more. I’m fully aware of the issues with Christianity specifically in our current political and cultural climate, and I do have a lot of questions about faith, Christianity and God that I still wrestle with myself. However, I am diving deeper, opening up more, settling into faith and laying hold of all the grace and blessings that come with it.
I have kept to my decision to stay in D.C. until 2018. That decision has been good for my sanity and body. I actually turned down two opportunities to travel for Thanksgiving and Christmas…so unlike me, but I’m proud of me. Looks like I can sit still when and if I choose to do so, but the year is not over yet and I’m itching…pray for me. :)
I stepped back into the job market in August, but I have been tiptoeing around it all year around. If you have been following me for a while, you may be aware that last summer I decided, after five years, to close my content writing, and editing business. I shifted my focus to storytelling, editing [more on this later] and pitching to publications instead, and that has been a good journey thus far.
You are probably also aware that I plan events, and take on a lot of my own wedding clients in addition to assisting other planners in the D.C. metro area. This year and last, I was quite busy with weddings, but this summer I decided to take yet another break in 2018 from running my own event company [for now]. Instead I stepped into a project-based Lead Planner role for an event company I have been working with for a few years now. I will also be assisting one other D.C. based planner on day of events.
I say I’m stepping away from planning events for now, because I do have ideas for events that I hope to pursue in the future But for now I need something stable, hence my decision to find a job. I had a few interviews and will book something before the year runs out. I’m not done doing my own thing, I am an entrepreneur at heart, and will definitely be rolling out services in the future, but for now I need a breather in the form of something stable
I still plan to get my Project Management Certification (PMP) in 2018.
2017 was a good year. I laid many good foundations, made great connections and honed in on the skills I wanted to grow and groom. I’m looking forward to what my career does in 2018.
I had an amazing time at the Starting Bloc conference. I am officially a fellow and looking forward to what a lifetime of growing and learning with people. I’ll share details in an upcoming post.
What is that? LOL
And in regards to dating, I’m collecting data all over the place still lol
Ego is the enemy.
I’m making a 2018 Reading list and I can’t wait to share it with you all.
I caught a bug earlier in November, and I was in unable to do much for two weeks. I hate when I get sick.
I’m thinking about getting back to therapy.
I will be spending Christmas with family and prepping for 2018…beautiful things in the works.
