REST is one of my words for 2018, because I don't want to hustle, toil and strive anymore. I want to work from a place of grace, and I started out in January living up to that intention and course correcting whenever I fell back into old habits.
Then February and March happened, and life swept me off my feet.
Two weeks ago, I had a come to Jesus moment. I was overwhelmed and slightly stressed, and I prayed.
“Dear Jesus, I want a full plate, but I don’t want to be overwhelmed. Help me release anything on my plate that is not for me and not for this season. Help me let them fall to the wayside. I choose to take on projects that are for this season. I also pray for the wisdom to recognize what should be on my plate, and what I should let go or pause. Amen.”
It is a prayer I will pray and execute on until I sense my plate has on it what I am capable of doing well and with excellence. I'm still leaning into this quote by Junot Diaz,"The whole culture is telling you to hurry, while the art tells you to take your time. Always listen to the arts."
Speaking of prayers, I believe in working my prayers, and also walking towards them. Manifestation is a word that has been showing up a lot for me in weird places, and I’m starting to truly believe that when you want something, the entire universe conspires to help you achieve it. You just watch it bloom and then evolve. I’m putting more stuff out in the universe and specifically in God’s hands.
With that said, here are a few things, I have been currently living.
Projects + Events
After shutting JostWrite down in 2016 and pausing Crystiana Events last year, my starting plans were to pitch story ideas and write, and to use my logistics skills in a 9-5 or on a mix-match of project-based work. For the latter, I wasn't exactly set on the kind of job or projects, but I had an idea so I moved on that, and I have been manifesting that desire. By the end of June, I would have managed and produced three photo shoots for two different companies and a bride. One of the companies also hired me to support the day of event logistics for a weekend-long pop up event. I have had two people who are opening up two different medical practices ask me in two separate conversations about managing for them [I have a Masters in Public Health (MPH), and I worked in a clinic doing similar work for four years, so not out of the blues].
Speaking of manifestation, I was asked by three different platforms to write articles about women, Africa, faith, feminism, books etc., and these are the verticals I have been declaring that I want to write more on. In addition, I am working as a story consultant for a documentary film. Talk about attracting what you desire.
None of my pitches has been accepted yet this year, actually not true, one pitch I have my eyes on may be a go…fingers crossed
Still on the topic of manifesting desires, I led a conversation event on Love and Worthiness in February and guest lectured at American University in March. Clearly, God is on my side, and I shall not be moved. AMEN.

I’m at the salon once a week, and on call for when a need arises and it is usually on a Thursday or Friday. However, as wedding season turns the corner, my calendar will close up, but I decided to keep the once a week because I enjoy the salon, and the walls of my home are closing in on me. I need to get out at least once a week. LOL
I was back home in Minnesota for a dear friend’s wedding. I was on bridesmaid’s duty and I had a blast. Bachelorette night was lit and my voice left the premises. LOL I’m looking forward to my spring and summer trips.
