Last October, I shot my shot with the co-founder of an international media company via email, and then I slid into her Instagram DM. She responded to both messages and asked me to send her a document.
And then, crickets…on my end!
I did not have the document, or rather it wasn’t ready. The irony was I knew there was the possibility that she would ask for something similar. I had been talking about creating this document since February, but life got busy. I did finally get to it in September, but we were in October and it still wasn't ready.
One of my biggest takeaways in the past three years and especially from last year is REST! A close second is the wisdom of building for sustainable longevity. Rome was not built in a day, and I am a firm believer that our dreams and goals will not be fulfilled at microwave speed, but we’ve got to be ready for when the opportunities and doors open.
I got the attention of a big shot, but I wasn’t ready.
I didn’t stay ready so I had to get ready
Moving in measured steps is one key to longevity, and it gives you the flexibility to grow, expand and evolve. .
If you are anything like me, then I know you want to get everything you want like yesterday — whether it is a successful career, an amazing wife/husband, a house, a trip to Singapore, Bali and the Maldives or a connection with the right CEO — we want it now. We forget that these blessings will fall apart if we don’t build on a solid foundation and in the right pace. No one raises great children, or a build a happy marriage, amazing career or a successful business in a day. It is the ever evolving process of growth and lessons learned. A tree cannot grow without roots and we need to develop roots before shooting up.
Lately I am leaning into the Spirit as I lay the foundation to sustain all the structure I want to build into my life and business. Opportunities can knock at the door anytime, but in the mean time, let’s get our ducks in a row...dots the i’s and cross the t’s. It will take time. Some times we walk, other times we run and most days, we are crawling. There is a destination and we will get there.
I finally finalized the document in November , and sent it to her.
And then crickets…on her end!
